On Tuesday 16th July, Plymouth Beach Clean was invited to the Crowne Plaza Hotel for the Community Honours Award celebration event. We had received the news a couple weeks before that we had been nominated for the Community Group Achievement Award and were surprised to find that of the nominations we were one of the lucky 8 community groups that were shortlisted and won.

This achievement is something I had not even thought about when starting Plymouth Beach Clean back in February 2018. It is just incredible thinking about all that has been achieved in just 17 months, with help of more than 800 volunteers we have completed 65 beach cleans, thats 114 hours of litter-picking, collected over 290 bags of rubbish and thousands of nurdles, collaborated on many beach clean events with various groups and organisations from Plymouth, educated our local community about ocean stewardship. This award is just overwhelming recognition of the hardwork of many from our community and I just want to say thank you.

Thank you to every single person who has volunteered with us, supported us, thank you to those who continue to spread awareness about our group and what we do, and thank you to those nominated us for this award, it truly means a lot and warms our hearts.

Now, let’s keep cleaning coasts, to protect our ocean!

Happy Beach Cleaning,

Oleta and the Beach Clean Team
