On 18th February, Oleta founded Plymouth Beach Clean, starting our journey. Our mission – Cleaning Coasts, Protecting the Ocean.
On the 18th March 2018 we held our first event at Mount Batten Beach during a snowstorm!
Plymouth Beach Clean becomes a Plastic Free Ambassador for the Plastic Free Plymouth Sound Initiative
Our founder, Oleta, becomes one of the first #LitterHeroes Ambassadors for Keep Britain Tidy.
On our 28th beach clean, we were joined by Luke Pollard, Local MP and Shadow Fisheries Minister. On this clean, we first spotted the fireworks casings and since then have been working to highlight the problem of plastics usage in outdoor events.
Event 31 saw 63 volunteers help clean up Mount Batten Beach during the Great British Beach Clean weekend. This event was shown in the local paper.
As part of the first Great Global Nurdle Hunt we headed to Bovisand Beach. In 2 hours we collected 5,142 Nurdles!
On the 17th March 2019, we held our 50th Beach Clean with 30 volunteers. One year, 50 beach cleans.
Our founder Oleta was invited to write an article for MP Luke Pollard’s second edition of White Papers this edition has a marine focus. Oleta was also invited to speak at the launch event and tell the guests all about her success with Plymouth Beach Clean over the last year.

Plymouth Beach Clean Volunteers helped contribute to the #RoadToGlasto2019 project of collecting waste from the ocean, beach, rivers and land to be recycled and made into the Gas Tower Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2019.

Plymouth Beach Clean founder Oleta was interviewed by Emily of Beach Guardian in her BBC Spotlight mini series “Emily Explores” about the plastic pollution in Plymouth. This was featured on BBC Radio Devon, BBC Radio Cornwall and on BBC News South West Spotlight during the evening news.
